An Account of the Life Of the late Reverend Mr. David Brainerd, Minister of the Gospel, Missionary to the Indians, from the honourable Society in Scotland, for the Propagation of Christian Knowledge, and Pastor of a Church of Christian Indians in New-Jersey. Boston: N.E.: D. Henchman, 1749. Small 8vo, new calf; title a bit soiled and repaired (not affecting text) and with a small piece of tape slightly obscuring a few letters of text); a small piece is torn from the 5 th leaf of the preface, on 8 lines removing between a letter and a word of text at the outer margin; there is a similar but slightly larger piece torn from the final leaf of the 18 page list of subscriber's names, affecting some letters of 4 names recto and 6 verso; there is a bit of staining toward the rear of the book. (12) 294 (14)pp **The first edition of this scarce and important classic work. With the ownership inscriptions "Ex Libris Geo Munro 17 55" on the title and "Ex Libris Georgij Munro 1762" on the front free endpaper (and a further, similar inscription on the rear free endpaper dated 1755) and with an old library stamp on the verso of the title. $1950.
